08-01_1: 2B Searches for 9S

[After the fight with Grün, 2B slowly wakes up.]
2B: Nnngh... 2B to Bunker, come in. Over.
6O: Operator to... 2B!? 2B, are you all right!?
2B: Running system diagnostics... Core functionality appears intact.
6O: Thank goodness!
2B: Never mind that— I need a status report.
6O: Roger that. In regards to the giant machine that attacked the shore, it ceased its resistance eight hours ago following your missile strike.
2B: Eight... hours?
6O: However, its EMP strikes knocked out comms all across the region. We’re having trouble getting them back online. Which means data uploading is currently unavailable in some areas.
2B: Where’s 9S?
6O: Um... yeah. About that. We picked up a faint black box reading, but it wasn’t strong enough to lock down his position.
2B: If you found something, that means he must be alive. Put in a request to the Commander for immediate approval to begin a search.
6O: Actually, the Commander has already ordered us to prioritize tracking down surviving YoRHa members. If you find 9S... let me know. Okay?
2B: Will do. 2B out.
[6O disconnects from the transmission.]
2B: Pod, I need you to scan for any nearby black-box signals.
Pod 042: ... ...... Scanning complete. No signals detected. However, a dynamic scanner is required for detection of weaker signals.
2B: Never heard of it.
Pod 042: Said dynamic scanner may be located in the Resistance camp. Proposal: Further information should be obtained from the Resistance leader.
2B: Let’s go.
[As 2B makes her way towards the Resistance Camp, she comes across fellow injured YoRHa soldiers in the Flooded City.]
YoRHa Soldier: ...
2B: No response.
Pod 042: Limited functionality detected in black box.
2B: So she’s still alive. Contact the Bunker.
Pod 042: Affirmative.
[Another one is found.]
YoRHa Soldier: Ungh... Angh...
Pod 042: No anomalies detected in black box signal. However, her language core seems to have been damaged.
2B: Poor thing... You’re going to be fine, don’t worry.
YoRHa Soldier: Ah...
2B: Pod, send a rescue signal to the Bunker.
Pod 042: Affirmative.
YoRHa Soldier: Eh... Oh...
[Unfortunately upon reaching the nearby Access Point, it appears that several terminals are down. When 2B emerges from the sewer pipe into the City Ruins, she receives a transmission from 6O.]
2B: 2B here.
6O: We’ve got a number of broken-down access points on the field. The cause appears to be an EMP attack from a gigantic machine lifeform. If you encounter any offline access points, please repair them for us.
2B: Understood.
[6O disconnects. When 2B arrives at the Resistance Camp, her attempt to access the nearby terminal is met with...]
Resistance Member: Sorry, this terminal is out-of-order right now.
[2B approaches Anemone.]
Anemone: Hm? What's up?
2B: I’m looking for something called a dynamic scanner that can detect black-box signals.
A dynamic...? Oh, you must mean the one the twins built. I think they’re just back from an expedition, actually. You should see some red-haired androids over there. Try talking to them. ...... 2B. Those twins, they...
2B: Yes?
Anemone: Actually, never mind.
[2B approaches the red-haired twins.]
Devola: What do you want?
Popola: Easy, Devola. There’s no need to be so confrontational.
Devola: And you don’t have to trust every idiot that wanders by!
Popola: *sigh* ...I’m sorry about that. Can we help you?
2B: I need a scanner that can detect faint black box signals.
Devola: Ah. Yeah, I was tinkering with something like that a little while back. Here. If you want it, it’s all yours.
Popola: That chip should help with your search, once you install it. It can detect black-box signals, quest objects... all manner of things. You’ll hear a sound whenever it finds something.
Devola: And if it ever bugs you too much, you can always pop it back out.
Popola: Let us know if there’s anything else you need from us, okay?
Devola: And don’t think this makes us friends.
Popola: Oh, Devola...
- Items Obtained -
You obtained a Pod program.
A170: Scanner
[Speaking to the twins again.]
Popola: Welcome. Is there anything you need?
[Popola and Devola's shop.]
[2B leaves the Resistance Camp to make her way back to the Flooded City to look for 9S. Using the scanner...]
2B: I've picked up a response on the scanner.
[When she finds something and picks it up...]
2B: Huh. This might be useful.
[Pod 042 pipes up with advice later.]
Pod 042: Search target 9S was caught in a large explosion over the water. Proposal: The search for 9S should commence in the flooded region.
2B: Got it. ...... It’s funny. You’re oddly chatty today.
Pod 042: Affirmative. As a support unit, I am capable of engaging in conversation as necessary. Proposal: 2B should initiate conversation more frequently.
2B: ...Proposal denied.
[Returning to the Flooded City with the scanner, 2B finds other soldiers in a bad state.]
YoRHa Soldier: W-what happened?
2B: You got hit by an EMP blast.
YoRHa Soldier: I... I don’t remember anything...
2B: Don’t worry. I sent out a rescue signal to the Bunker.
Pod 042: We are currently searching for a missing YoRHa unit, designation 9S. Should you possess any information on the subject, please disclose it at once.
YoRHa Soldier: I’m sorry... I... I don’t know anything.
2B: That’s okay. Just stay here and rest.
YoRHa Soldier: W-who am I...?
[Coming upon yet another injured soldier.]
YoRHa Soldier: Eek! Who are you!?
2B: Don’t worry, I’m—
YoRHa Soldier: N-no... Get away from me! I don’t like the look of you!
Por 042: Proposal: remove fear functionality.
YoRHa Soldier: No! Stay away! I hate you! I... hate...
2B: Sorry to startle you. Just stay here and wait for help.
YoRHa Soldier: Urrrgh...
2B: ......
YoRHa Soldier: So... scared...
[Ducking around to the elevator, 2B happens upon a strange machine.]
Apologetic Machine: Whoa there! This place is still closed, kind sir and/or madam! Bur fret not! There is absolutely NOTHING of value here! So don’t let it distract you and run along now! Hmmm... but I can’t just send you off empty-handed, now can I? I’d love to give you a souvenir of some kind, but I have nothing on me right now. What to do, what to do...? ...... I know! I shall self-destruction for your convenience! This will result in a rain of useful materials. They are yours to keep! Ah yes, fortune smiles upon you today! Once you’ve collected my gifts, please forget everything you saw here. That’s a promise, you hear? Goodbye!
[Approaching the solider by the disused bus.]
Pod 042: Black box signal detected. Life functions operational.
2B: Pod, employ a check module and a logic-virus vaccine.
YoRHa Soldier: Nnngh...
2B: Easy. I’ve contacted the Bunker. They should be here soon.
YoRHa Soldier: Th-thank you...
Pod 042: We are currently searching for a missing YoRHa unit, designation 9S. Should you possess any information on the subject, please disclose it at once.
2B: Please. Anything will help.
YoRHa Soldier: 9S... That’s that kid who was with you, right? I saw him, all right. That explosion sent him flying...
Pod 042: Which direction?
YoRHa Soldier: Hard to say... I’ll take my best guess at a landing spot and transfer the data to you.
2B: Thank you. You should stay here until the rescue team arrives.
Pod 042: Target location data obtained. Marking on map.
YoRHa Soldier: Nnngh...
[The location appears to be pointed to the sinkhole in the City Ruins. 2B makes her way back there. As she enters the sinkhole.]
2B: 9S should have landed around here...
Pod 042: Alert: Faint black box signal detected. The transmission seems to be coming from an underground cave network.
[As 2B enters the underground caverns, there are several android bodies strung up on crude metal crosses.]
2B: Why are there dead androids here?
Pod 042: No black box signals detected.
[Approaching the elevator that was previously locked.]
2B: Would 9S have made it this far inside?
Pod 042: Alert: Possible enemy ambush ahead.
2B: Don’t care.
[2B rides the elevator down.]
2B: Nnngh... 2B to Bunker, come in. Over.
