Date: 2018-05-01 11:10 am (UTC)Same as his normal hacking powers, he needs to be within 30 feet of the target in order to hack them and will have better chances of success if his target is not aware he is attempting to hack them. His life hacking would be limited to the following abilities from his broader hacking powers:
- Memory/information extraction: He can pull surface thoughts or memories that are currently weighing heavily on the target's mind. If he wants to drag out specific information or go digging deeper into someone's psyche, it's a longer process. He cannot change or remove memories.
- Mind control: He can command the target with simple instructions. Simple commands that the target is not directly opposed to are easier to impose upon them compared to ones they are (e.g. commanding an opponent to not use their magic when attacking is easier than commanding them not to attack at all). This ability also allows him to try and wrest control away from someone who is already brainwashed.
- Possession: He can straight up body surf into someone and use their abilities (though with not nearly as much finesse). Anyone can resist and fight back against the possession attempt the entire time 9S is in there, so they may be able to toss him out after like 5 seconds of possession.
His android body is left vulnerable when performing any of these actions.
As this is a spell that converts his innate hacking into magic, people can be resistant to it by the standard RP means, i.e. having a strong will, having some ability to defend themselves from telepaths/mind magic/etc., spell breaking, and just plain old punching out 9S.
The following additional restrictions would apply to organic hacking:
- 9S can only hack something that has a will (so he can't hack a tree, but he could theoretically hack a plant person).
- The less 9S can understand or comprehend the target's thought patterns (i.e. the less like a "human" the target is), the more difficult it is for him to hack. There's also a higher chance his mind will meld with the target's and temporarily scramble his brain. So hacking animals is ill advised!!
Given the scope of these abilities, I will talk to people OOCly if 9S tries to use these powers!
Additional Powers - Mental Enchantment breaking
Date: 2018-07-16 02:30 am (UTC)9S will have found a book written by someone he's never heard of. The important thing, however, is that it seems to be a very thorough breakdown of the neuro-pathways of the human (and similar) brain, and specifically the way that spells can affect it. It talks about the different areas of the brain and how enchantments often manipulate them. It is detailed enough that, with enough reading and study, 9S will be able to start using that information and, combined with his existing bio-hacking abilities, gain a sense of how to break down mental enchantments like firewalls.
Of course, he will still very much be a novice at this skill, even after weeks of studying. It will take functional practice to see much improvement, and even then, it will be highly dependent on the type and strength of enchantment.
Either way, he may take this ability as a FREE Simple Spell. In the future, it can be upgraded with regular AC points.
